TPLEX extension project will cut Pangasinan-Ilocos Sur travel time
THE normal two-hours travel from Dagupan City to San Juan, La Union will soon be cut by an hour or less, once the construction of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) extension is completed.
The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) recently approved the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) plan to proceed with the public procurement (aka a Swiss Challenge) for the extension project.
In a statement released by the DPWH, it said it has begun accepting other proposals, aside from the proposal submitted by the San Miguel Holdings Corporation (SMHC), and if there will be no other proposal to challenge the SMHC’s, the project may be awarded in March 2024.
The TPLEX extension segment is allotted P 23.4 billion, to cover 59.4 kilometers long with four lanes to be constructed in three segments and is expected to be finished in five years, or in 2028.
The first segment, 18 kilometers long, will start from Rosario and to end in Tubao town in La Union. Once completed, the Tubao interchange will open routes to Baguio City.
The second segment, a 23-kilometer-long road, will start from Tubao to Naguilian that features an interchange that leads to the Benguet province.
The third segment will be 18.4 kilometers long, from Naguilian to San Juan town where an interchange in Bauang town will also be built for motorists traveling to San Fernando City. (Ahikam Pasion)
