CHO raises urgency to construct Maternal and Children’s Hospital
THE Dagupan City government is keenly looking into the construction of a PHP 150-million medical facility in the city despite the initial setback the project suffered at the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Dr. Ophelia Rivera, chief of the Dagupan City Health Office, told the SP Cares program over Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan that the planned construction of a Maternal and Children’s Hospital in the city was the result of a partnership agreement between the Dagupan City government and the Department of Health (DOH).
Rivera said the P150-million budget for the construction of said facility has been available since 2021, a memorandum of agreement between the city and DOH to begin construction has been signed, and only a resolution from Sangguniang Panlungsod giving its imprimatur is needed to give it a green light.
Rivera warned that if the facility is not built soon, the DOH may decide to shift the allocated funds to another priority project outside of the city.
DOH already agreed to an initial recommendation to build it in the area where the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and DSWD buildings in Barangay Poblacion Oeste are located, since the LTO Office is eyeing to move to Bonuan Area.
While the proposed area is less than the required one-hectare, it has passed the DOH standards owing to its strategic location, being accessible to island barangays.
“The DOH has recommended that the area be donated to them to immediately begin construction once documentation is finished”, said Rivera.
The Maternal and Children’s Hospital will be a level 1 facility, where simple cases of mothers and children may be treated.
Rivera said the LGU can man the operations, as trained personnel are readily available, including position for the chief of hospital and the city government is set to fund the facility’s daily operations.
The R1MC is mandated to provide a doctor for said hospital.
Funds to be used for said operation will come from the Dagupan City LGU. Meanwhile,
in the same radio program, Vice Mayor Bryan Kua said the hospital will greatly benefit Dagupeño mothers and children. (Ahikam Pasion)
