BSKE bets warned: No tacking posters on trees
THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 1 issued a reminder to candidates participating in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on the prohibition of nailing or tacking campaign posters and materials on trees.
This reminder is based on Presidential Decree No. 953, which penalizes the unauthorized cutting, destruction, damaging, and injuring of trees, plants, and vegetation in public places. The law prohibits the nailing or tacking of campaign materials on trees as it can cause damage and injury.
Violators of this provision could face legal consequences, including imprisonment for a minimum of six months and a maximum of two years, a fine of at least P5,000, or both, as determined by the court. However, there is an exception to this rule: if the cutting, destroying, damaging, or injuring of trees is necessary for public safety or if pruning is required to enhance the beauty of the trees.
The campaign period for BSKE candidates will end on October 29, the eve of the elections. (Leonardo Micua)
