Comelec warns 4 BSKE bets for ‘premature campaigning’
FOUR candidates in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are in danger of being disqualified after they were each issued show cause orders by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Provincial Office for premature campaigning.
City Elections Supervisor Marino Salas did not disclose the names of the candidates to the media nor the barangay and towns/cities from where they come from but they were reported to be allegedly campaigning on social media.
He said the central office of the COMELEC called on the Pangasinan provincial office to issue the show cause order after noting the violations of the four candidates.
In the show cause order, the candidates were asked why no case for violation of the Omnibus Election Code be filed against them, and if they cannot make a satisfactory answer, they will not only be disqualified as candidates but will be charged with appropriate charges related to their alleged violation of the law.
Under the BSKE law, campaign by candidates running for barangay chairperson and members of the barangay council or kagawad; and chairman and members of the Sangguniang Kabataan, will start on October 19.
The BSKE is set on October 30 this year. There are 57,782 candidates for the BSKE in 1,364 barangays all over Pangasinan. (Leonardo Micua)
