THE Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Pangasinan logged 57,740 aspirants who filed their respective certificates of candidacy (COC) for the October 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

Atty. Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor, confirmed on September 6 that 3,593 filed their COCs for Barangay Chairman, 28,580 for Barangay Council Members, 3,817 for SK Chairman, and 21,756 for SK Kagawad.

Salas said there was a 25-percent increase in the number who filed their COCs for this year’s BSKE, compared to the 2018 BSKE with only around 43,000 candidates.

Salas attributed the increase in the number of aspirants due to added benefits and privileges since the amendment of the Sangguniang Kabataan Law, otherwise known as the Republic Act 11768.

While Salas said that the registered aspirants are considered official candidates, Comelec will continue to review and filter it before releasing the final list of candidates on September 17. (Ahikam Pasion)
