Valenzuela City donates P1.2-M rice w to Pangasinan flood victims
SOME P1.2 million worth of well-milled rice was donated by the city of Valenzuela in Metro Manila to flood victims in Dagupan City and three towns.
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, a former mayor and congressman of Valenzuela, accompanied by Valenzuela City Councilor Ricardo Enriquez and Liga ng mga Barangay President Bienvenido Bartolome Jr., was in Dagupan City last August 12 to deliver the donation, made under the program “Valenzuela Cares” and “Win Cares”.
Dagupan got 400 bags of rice and received by Mayor Belen Fernandez on behalf of the barangays.
Another 240 bags for Calasiao were received by Mayor Kevin Macanlalay while 200 bags for Mangatarem and 160 bags for Sta. Barbara, were received by representatives of Mayors Ramil Ventenilla and Carlito Zaplan, respectively.
Senator Gatchalian said ‘Valenzuela Cares’, a charity program of the city of Valenzuela’, also reached out to other areas in several provinces submerged by torrential rains of Typhoon Egay.
Mayor Fernandez expressed her profuse thanks to the city of Valenzuela and Senator Gatchalian for coming to the aid of Dagupan in one of its darkest hours after 29 of its 31 barangays were submerged by floodwaters for days.
The senator admitted that Valenzuela also suffered devastation of similar magnitude during the onslaught of Super Typhoon “Ondoy” some years ago. (Leonardo Micua)
