Downtown Dagupan isolated for days
NATIONAL ROADS NOT PASSABLE
DOWNTOWN Dagupan, the location of the Central Business District (CBD), was virtually isolated from the rest of the city and other towns in Pangasinan after five national roads accessing the city were not passable to light vehicles due the severe flooding spawned by days of monsoon rains, following the onslaught of Super Typhoon ‘Egay’.
The Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension was the only passable route to the west, south and east that made it difficult for motorists to reach downtown Dagupan from all directions beginning last Monday.
Not passable were the Urdaneta Junction -Dagupan -Lingayen Road via Zambales (0.2 to 0.3 meter deep), Urdaneta Junction -Dagupan-Lingayen Road via Perez (0.2-03 meter), Urdaneta Junction-Dagupan-Lingayen Road via Tarlac (0.10 to 0.3 meter), Dagupan-Bonuan-San Fabian Road (02-03 meter), and Judge Jose de Venecia Sr. Avenue (0.1 to 0.5 meter).
Flooding in those areas virtually halted travel to Dagupan from Mangaldan, San Fabian and Calasiao. Only motorists from Binmaley, Lingayen and San Carlos City could reach the city via the JdV Expressway, Dagupan.
These roads are under the jurisdiction of the second Pangasinan Engineering District of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)
The agency installed warning signs alerting motorists not to risk proceeding through the flooded areas.
Only bancas and “kuligligs” (hand tractors) were seen ferrying passengers along many flooded roads in Dagupan City. (Leonardo Micua)
