Dengue cases in Pangasinan increased with 904 cases
THE Department of Health–Center for Health and Development (DOH-CHD) Region I recorded 1,957 dengue cases in the region from January 1 to July 22 this year, 24 percent lower than last year’s 2,567 cases but more deaths were reported.
Pangasinan reported the most with 904 cases, followed by La Union with 521, Ilocos Norte with 400, and Ilocos Sur with 132 cases.
The number of fatalities has increased to 12, three more deaths compared to last year’s only nine. Pangasinan and La Union provinces reported six deaths each.
Dr. Paula Paz Sydiongco, DOH-CHD 1 director, said in response to the recorded dengue fatalities and cases, all provincial DOH offices and provincial government health offices have prepositioned anti-waterborne diseases equipment, and other medical supplies to prevent dengue.
Prophylactic antibiotics have also been made readily available to LGUs.
Meanwhile, cases of leptospirosis have increased by 60 percent: 45 cases were recorded from January 1 to July 22 this year, higher than last year’s 28 cases.
Pangasinan reported 16 cases, 14 in Ilocos Norte, 13 in La Union, and two in Dagupan City.
Leptospirosis also caused nine deaths this year, higher compared to last year’s three deaths. (Ahikam Pasion)
