P2-M initial damages in Pangasinan recorded due to Egay, Habagat
ESTIMATED damage to the province’s agriculture caused by Typhoon Egay and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) reached P2 million as of July 27.
This was initial estimate of the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), saying farmers suffered the most during the onslaught of two weather systems.
Livestock damages reached PHP 270,000, while 16 partially damaged houses and two totally damaged houses are recorded that did not include number of buildings and houses whose roofs were destroyed.
Meanwhile, the PDRRMO was still finalizing the list and number of evacuees as of writing, that were brought to temporary shelter in barangay halls and elementary schools.
As of July 26, Wednesday morning, 248 families, or 1,116 individuals were recorded to temporarily seek shelter in other areas.
“Umuwi na rin karamihan pagkatapos ng mga ulan na malalakas at bugso ng hangin”, said Vincent Chiu, PDRRMO operations head.
Chiu reminded the public not to swim in the beach, while fishermen were asked not to sail.
PDRRMO officer Rhodyn Oro earlier reported that eight towns and cities were severely affected by strong winds and rains of Egay.
One bridge in Bani was damaged, while all major roads in the province are passable. (Ahikam Pasion)
