Guico takes leave of absence, again
TWO ACTING GUVS, VICE GUVS
UNKNOWN to many, the provincial government had two acting governors, two acting vice governors over a week’s period after Governor Ramon Guico III filed a leave of absence starting Monday, June 26.
Vice Governor Mark Lambino was acting governor till after the regular weekly session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan while Third District Board Member Shiela Baniqued became the acting vice governor and temporary presiding officer of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan during their Monday’s regular session.
But both Lambino and Baniqued were acting governor and acting vice governor respectively only for a day. Both had filed their leaves of absences earlier on.
Lambino went on a family vacation trip while Baniqued’s reason was not known.
It was the second leaves of absences for both Guico and Lambino, separately but following each other.
Lambino said he and the governor planned their leaves separately and well in advance to attend to family affairs.
“These are all personal travels with our own families. We had different destinations,” he said. “It’s summer vacation for the kids… while in my case, there’s summer break and it is only now that I can bring my son out for a vacation,” he added.
He said that he is not just a provincial official but also a dad, thus the need to balance his time between work and family.
Lambino also stressed that “these are all personal travels, we use our personal funds … because these are not official travels…” and they obtained travel clearance from the Department of Interior and Local Government.
Fifth District Board Member Rosary Gracia Perez-Tababa was acting governor until Saturday, while Sixth District Board Member Noel Bince took over as acting vice governor.
The vice governor said the provincial board will have its regular session on July 3 since only he and Baniqued were on leave
When The PUNCH sought for comment about the governor’s return in a chat, Provincial Information Officer Dhobie de Guzman merely read it but did not reply. (Eva Visperas)
