IT’S that time of the year again. Calasiao is again experiencing severe flooding in many of its barangays as water from upstream continue to flow in.

Kristine Soriano of the Calasiao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said as of July 28, Friday, 9a.m., the Marusay River water level is at 9.2 feet Above Normal Level. This is considered Critical.

With the town’s river at critical level, six areas are now underwater: Sitio Kasintak in Barangay Longos (5ft); Sitio Buca, Barangay Songkoy (3.5ft); Sitio Tebron, Barangay Mancup (3ft); Barangay Lasip (3ft); Sitio Boquig, Barangay Lumbang (1ft to 5.5ft); and Sitio Binco, Barangay Talibaew (1ft to 3.5ft).

Access roads to these places were closed to light vehicles but national roads remained passable to all types of vehicles.

Soriano said 32 individuals had to be evacuated but chose to be with friends and relatives.

Soriano warned residents that they should expect water from upstream to continue to flow in over the weekend, and urged public to consider pre-emptive evacuation, and forced evacuation, as a last resort.

Agriculture damages in Calasiao were to have reached P1.1 million mainly on corn, and P164,000 on high-value crops while 17 houses were partially damaged, two were totally damaged.

As of last Friday, there was still no recommendation from the MDRRMO or the Mayor’s Office to declare Calasiao under state of calamity. (Ahikam Pasion)
