Sunday PUNCH, 90 individuals, establishments as “unsung heroes”

75th DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATION
THE Sunday Punch and 90 other outstanding individuals, institutions and groups were honored as “unsung heroes whose invaluable contributions helped Dagupan City become what it is today” during the 75th Diamond Jubilee culmination ceremony held at the CSI Stadia on June 19.
Sunday Punch was recognized under the Pamirbir Tan Pamagalang Award as one of the pioneering and lasting business establishments and enterprises synonymous with the progress of the city.
Leading the individual awardees were former five-time Speaker Jose De Venecia Jr, who was presented the highest award, Biskeg na Baley Diamond Award; and Archbishop Socrates Villegas for the Nitanduron Pamagalang Award.
Mayor Belen Fernandez cited the “extraordinary tribute and honor the legacy of former five-time House Speaker Jose De Venecia, undeniably the most favorite son of Dagupan whose achievements and contributions to Dagupan City, especially during its most trying moments.”
She said Speaker De Venecia, former Rep. Gina De Venecia, and their son, Rep. Christopher De Venecia, have given us “a generation of inspiration”.
In his brief response, Speaker de Venecia said he was elated by the award he received and considered it very special since it was presented to him on the day Dagupan marked a milestone in its history.
The mayor said the Pinablin Dagupeño Awards and the special awards of the city are the city government’s way of searching for the unsung heroes and honoring their services and efforts.
Dr. Betha Fe Manaois-Castillo, a Pinablin Dagupeño awardee, delivered the response on behalf of the awardees said, “All of us have a calling and all of us are created to serve or share her blessings to show compassion and reveal to help others in accordance with God’s plan and purpose”.
“Bawat isa sa inyo ay malaking bahagi ng ating pag-unlad at pagkamit ng tuloy-tuloy na asenso sa ating lungsod. Hindi maipagkakaila na kayo ay nagsisilbi bilang mga inspirasyon at mabuting halimbawa para sa susunod na henerasyon ng mga kabataang Dagupeno,” she stressed.
Top Individual and Corporate Taxpayers of Dagupan were also recognized for their exemplary service as individuals, businessmen and corporation.
“All our honorees were especially handpicked by distinguished judges who determined ascertaining that all our honorees best reflect our values, principles, and excellence as a city and as a people,” Mayor Fernandez added.
