San Roque Dam needs more water

SINCE Monday, despite non-stop rains in Northern Luzon over the past week, particularly along the Cordillera Region since May 29 due to the Southwesterly Windflow (Weak Habagat), the water level in San Roque Dam remains 2.18 meters above sea level (masl) lower than the normal level.

According to Odette Rivero, spokesperson for the National Power Corporation (NPC), the latest hydrological report as of 6A.M. Thursday, June 1, San Roque Dam logged only 228.88 masl, and required level for the dam for consistent power production, or rule curve, should be 235.22 masl.

PAGASA has projected that by the end of June, the dam level will rise to 233.04 masl.

Rivero, however, said there’s need for concern over the current low water levels since the rainy season is expected.

“Rivero added that the maintenance shutdown of the San Roque power plant helped save water because the waterways are closed during the maintenance proper.
