Pangasinan rivers still below alert level despite rains – PAGASA
120mm BELOW THE 200mm NORMAL RAINFALL
WATER level in the rivers of Pangasinan still remain below alert level.
This was confirmed by Gener Quitlong, weather specialist at the PAGASA and Agno River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (ARBFFWC) in Rosales town, in an interview on Tuesday, June 13.
The ARBFFWC data shows rainfall level in the province of Pangasinan only measured 120 millimeters (mm), below the 200mm normal rainfall amount.
The current level is not expected to reach alert level any day soon.
In Dagupan City, while some areas are flooded occasionally, the water level elevation is brought about by high tide, and not rains, clarified Quitlong.
Water level at the San Roque Dam is currently at 234.10 meters above sea level (masl). Its normal water high level is at 280 masl.
Quitlong said it should allay fears of farmers on possible water shortage in the meantime because of the expected rain water streaming from the mountains.
He added that even if Binga Dam releases water, the San Roque Dam can easily handle incoming water from upstream.
While Typhoon ‘Chedeng’ is already outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility as of writing, a frontal system exists in the West Philippine Sea, dragging the Southwest Monsoon. (Ahikam Pasion)
