MBTF forms El Niño Task Force

ANTICIPATING the onslaught of El Niño in July this year till 2024, Mayor Belen Fernandez issued an executive order creating the Task Force El Niño that will plan in order to mitigate its adverse effects on her constituents in Dagupan.

Executive Order No. 10 issued by Fernandez on May 10, 2023 acknowledges the grave impact of El Niño on the people’s lives, health and socio-economic conditions, possible loss of lives, disruption of production, livelihood opportunities, disruption of essential services, and damages to property and national infrastructure.

As the first LGU in Pangasinan and Region 1 to constitute such task force, the Dagupan task force is mandated to formulate a comprehensive disaster preparedness and rehabilitation plan, to help prepare the public for El Niño’s disastrous effects.

The task group will be expected to conduct a massive information campaign to create further awareness on the El Niño phenomenon as well as the needed interventions to reduce its expected impact on the city.

Fernandez, who chair the task force, warned that El Niño “poses a serious threat to our city’s overall social and economic activities” and appealed to city residents to start conserving and saving water starting in their home. Fernandez said: “Malaki po ang inyong parte sa solusyong ito, kaya’t magtulungan tayo.”

Named by Fernandez as members of the task force are the heads of the CDRRMC, City Agriculture Office, CSWD, Public Alert Response and Monitoring Center, City Veterinarian, City Fire Marshal, Chief of PNP Dagupan, Pagasa-Weather Bureau, City Health Officer; Market Division,

Heads of fisherfolk communities, refilling station association, Matalunggaring Mangin Irrigators’ Association, Mauksoy Salisay Irrigators’ Association, Samahan ng mga Maliliit  na Mangingisda, Dagupan City Inc., Federasyon ng mga Maliliit na Mangingisda, Dagupan City, Rural Improvement Club, Produktong Dagupan Marketing Cooperative, Liga ng mga Barangay president, Dagupan Electric Corporation, DSWD-Pamana Task Force Disiplina and POSO.
