PNP logs 11 drowning cases during Holy Week
40% DROP IN CRIMES
THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) reported 11 drowning cases in the province during the observance of the Holy Week and long vacation.
P/ Colonel Jeff Fanged, provincial director, said five of the drowned victims happened on the public beaches, four in rivers, while two in private resorts.
The 11 cases were logged since the Pangasinan PPO was on high alert from April 2 to April 9, in anticipation for the influx of tourists and pilgrims in the province.
Among the identified victims were Johny Lingayo, 52, resident of Baguio City, who drowned in a private resort in Sison on April 9; Enrique Espinosa, 70, of Santa Cruz in Zambales, who died in Balaki Island in Infanta town on April 8; Alexander Bautista, 46, of Rosales town who drowned along the Agno River in Tayug town on April 5; Maxine Peñalosa, 9, of Makati City, who drowned in a private resort in Bolinao town; and John Carlo Gagar, 13, resident of Mayombo, Dagupan City, who drowned in a river in the barangay on April 8.
“Marami tayong mga post sa social media, lagi ring pinapayuhan ng mga pulis na naka-deploy sa mga areas na huwag lumangoy nang lasing. Nakakalungkot na may mga tao pa ring sumuway”, Fanged said.
Meanwhile Fanged reported that PPPO recorded a forty-percent decrease in focused crimes this Holy Week compared to last year, citing only seven incidents of pickpockets and thefts recorded from April 2 to April 9, compared to 13 focused crimes last year.
A suspect in the killing of former provincial Administrator Albertini Martinez on April was arrested, while other theft cases were also solved.
The PPPO has also implemented the serving of 138 arrest warrants, resulting in the capture of wanted persons.
Meanwhile, he said the high alert status of the police will remain until end of Pista’y Dayat in May 7. (Ahikam Pasion)
