‘One Bonuan’ is Gilon, Gilon ed Baley champ
CLUSTER 4, composed of Bonuan Gueset, Bonuan Boquig and Bonuan Binloc, known collectively as ‘One Bonuan’, bagged the championship trophy in the Gilon, Gilon ed Baley Street dancing competition last April 14, the opening salvo in this year’s Bangus Festival.
‘One Bonuan’ not only topped in the focal presentation at the city plaza but also copped the ‘Best Street Dance Award’ and tied with Cluster 8, composed of Lucao, Pogo Chico, Tapuac and Carael, for ‘Best in Costume’.
Twenty-eight of the 31 Barangays of Dagupan participated in the Gilon, Gilon ed Baley.
Witnessed by thousands of spectators that lined up the main streets of Dagupan, the choreography of street dancing by participants this year was noticeably innovative in recreating the images of fish farmers harvesting bangus under the direction of experts from the Sinulog Festival in Cebu at the invitation of Mayor Belen Fernandez.
Cluster 2, composed of Tambac, Mamalingling and Herrero-Perez went home with the first runner-up title while Cluster 1 composed of Bacayao Sur, Bacayao Norte, Caranglaan and Mayombo seized the second runner-up honor.
Dave Paragas, city information officer, said the Festival King Rene Suarez and Queen Anna Marie Suarez came from Cluster 1.
Paragas said the Gilon, Gilon ed Baley was a thanksgiving event in honor of Dagupan’s patron saint, St. John the Evangelist, who was a fisherman before he joined Jesus of Nazareth as one of his disciples.
Meanwhile, the Bangus Rodeo, another top feature of the Bangus Fstival, was held on April 19 that selected and awarded prizes to the longest and heaviest, as well as the prettiest Dagupan bangus, and the top bangus deboner, eater and classifier.
Bangusine, that will feature the different mouth-watering delicacies that could be made out of the Dagupan bangus, will be held on April 26, Beach Volleyball and other sports events on April 29 to May 1; and Bangusan Street Party will be held at Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension in the afternoon till evening of April 30.
