SOME 400 to 450 augmentation policemen from Region 1 and Pangasinan are securing the Buhay ay Ingatan, Droga Ayawan (BIDA) Fun Run in Dagupan today early morning of Sunday and the “Kalutan ed Dalan” along Jose de Venecia Expressway from 4:00 p.m. till midnight, set to be mobbed by over a half a million people from Region 1.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Ben Hur Abalos is leading the BIDA Fun Run along with other officials of the DILG, to be participated in by some 13,000 who registered personally and on-line.

The fun run was divided into five kilometers and three kilometers. The 5K runners negotiated from the Stadia to Rotonda and the 3K from Stadia to the Dagupan Terminal and inside.

Prizes were awarded to winners, including freebies to all participants who came from the ranks of students, policemen, firemen, government workers and from civic organizations.

There were seven medical teams patrolled the DOH, R1MC, City Health Office and from private hospitals and clinics.

Mayor Belen Fernandez, host of both BIDA Fun Run and Kalutan said Secretary Abalos is staying till the street party along JDV Express, that will also be attended by Senator Francis Tolentino and 20 foreign ambassadors slated to be brought to Dagupan by officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs.

In a press  conference on Thursday, Mayor Fernandez expressed confidence that the presence of foreign ambassadors will give Dagupan Bangus Festival an international exposure.

She said the policemen will be on alert for saboteurs during the kalutan.

“Yong sabotage, we already took that into a consideration kasi may mga kalaban na gustong sirain ang ating preparations. Ipinagbabawal din natin ang paggawa ng kalutan sa ibang lugar, maliban sa De Venecia Expessway,” Fernandez intend.

Fernandez was informed that a rival group will try to hold its own  kalutan along A.B. Fernandez Avenue but the mayor said, it will not be allowed and violators will be apprehended by the police.

She said because Dagupan and Pangasinan have just recovered from the pandemic, the more than half a million people coming for the Kalutan ed Dalan may not possibly break the 750,000 record crowd who turned in masse when the late Mayor Alipio Fernandez  and she, as vice mayor, teamed up to first hold the activity along JVF Expressway Extension.
