19 LGUs still with most drug-infected barangays
DAGUPAN CITY TOPS PDEA LIST
THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Pangasinan has cleared 87 percent of the province of illegal drugs or 1,104 out of 1,272 drug-affected barangays in the province, leaving only 168 or 13 percent drug-affected barangays remain.
This was bared by PDEA-Pangasinan head Rechie Camacho on Wednesday, April 19 on his agency’s accomplishments during the first quarter of the year.
Cities and towns with the most number of drug-affected barangays are Dagupan City, San Carlos City, San Fabian, San Jacinto, Agno, Asingan, Bano, Bautista, Binalonan, Binmaley, Bolinao, Dasol, Infanta, Sual, Umingan, Urdaneta City, Pozorrubio, San Quintin, and Manaoag.
Camacho, however, said they are currently focusing on five areas – Dagupan City, San Carlos City, Binmaley, Manaoag, and Pozorrubio respectively, due to the concentration of drug-affected barangays in said areas.
While Dagupan tops the list, Camacho said the construction of a Balay Silangan Reformation Center in the area will help curb the infestation of illegal drugs in the barangays.
“Mayroon nang proposed Balay Silangan Reformation Center ang Dagupan City, at patuloy ang coordination natin sa LGU upang masimulan na ang konstruksyon ng building,” he said.
Earlier, Dagupan Mayor Belen Fernandez said she will clear the city of drugs by the end of 2023 like she did in her first term.
And, with the opening of the Balay Silangan in Manaoag town, the eighth in Pangasinan, on April 19, more reformists and surrenderers will be assisted by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to ensure that they will be able to earn income by working, and not by peddling illegal drugs.
“Makakaasa po ang mga reformists natin na may livelihood program para sa kanila. Para mabigyan ng trabaho habang nagpapagaling,” added Camacho. (Ahikam Pasion)
