Calasiao’s Mayor Maya Caramat dies
AFTER SIX MONTHS IN OFFICE
THE municipality of Calasiao lost its newly elected mayor after serving her constituents only six months in office.
The sudden death of its town mayor, Mamilyn ‘Maya’ Agustin-Caramat on Sunday, January 8 shocked political leaders across the province.
Report from Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan’s Freddie Fajardo, who interviewed Caramat’s immediate family, confirmed the town mayor died at 12:30 AM in a private hospital in Dagupan City from a heart attack due to hypertension.
She, along with her family, were happily spending the night in their family resort, when she began feeling ill. She was rushed to the hospital at 11:30 p.m.
Her family believed it was her hectic activities, from the town’s Puto Festival, up to its Yuletide and New Year activities from joining reunions, homecomings, and other personal invitations from friends and other residents of Calasiao that aggravated her bouts with hypertension.
Her remains currently lie in state in Maya’s Haven in Barangay Nalsian.
Caramat, 52, the first female town mayor of Calasiao was only able to serve for six months. She defeated reelectionist Joseph Arman Bauzon.
Kevin Roy Macanlalay, her vice mayor, succeeds her.
She is survived by her husband, P/BGen Romeo Caramat, and children Patrick, and Kim. (Ahikam Pasion)
