THE Department of Health (DOH) reported that there is no cholera outbreak in Region I.

This was confirmed by DOH officer-in-charge Dr. Maria Rosario Vergeire, and Dr. Paula Paz Sydiongco, chief of the DOH-Center for Health Development in Region I at a press conference.

This is after several cases of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) were recorded in the province of Antique, where 362 patients have been rushed to hospitals, and eight have died.

Sydiongco said while the region is recording some cases of acute gastroenteritis, these are isolated cases, stressing that there is no outbreak of AGE in Pangasinan and in the region per DOH’s latest environmental sanitation monitoring and the region has one of the highest monitoring of water sources in the entire country.

Chlorine solutions are also being handed to areas struck by disasters, particularly in evacuation centers, where gastrointestinal illnesses have a higher probability of occurring.

AGE cases in the region, she said, are usually caused by other factors, such as improper handling of food and drinks. (Ahikam Pasion)
