Scholarship Fund exclusive for Dagupan students – MBTF
DAGUPEÑO students, not students from other towns and cities, have exclusive priority under the Dagupan City Scholarship Program and not for ‘ghost or flying’ scholars.
Mayor Belen Fernandez reiterated the scholarship’s primary objectives in her recent dialogues with current and new scholars.
Applications are pre-screened at the barangay level in coordination with the Barangay Councils activated by the Scholarship Committee.
The committee, chaired by Mayor Fernandez , is composed of Vice Mayor Bryan Kua as vice chairman, representatives from the Department of Education Dagupan, Commission on Higher Education, Association of Private Schools and Universities, City Social Welfare and Development Office and the Liga ng mga Barangay.
Based on the amended ordinance on the city’s Scholarship and Educational Assistance program, applicants need not take qualifying exam prior to becoming a scholar but must maintain passing grades in all their subjects once they are granted scholarship.
This year, P200 million fund is allocated for the yearly scholarship grants to ensure that scholars finish their college education.
The scholarship program started with a P3 million budget in 2013 under Mayor Fernandez upgraded to P22 million in 2019.
The Dagupan scholarship program’s theme “One Kabataan for One Dagupan” underscores the continuing development of young Dagupeños for the city’s future. (Dagupan CIO News)
