Five-ton weight limit set in Urbiztondo bridge
AMID WAWA BRIDGE COLLAPSE
THE Urbiztondo local government is strictly implementing a five-ton weight limit on its Imelda Bridge following an assessment after the collapse of the approach of the Carlos P. Romulo Bridge in Barangay Wawa, Bayambang, on Thursday, October 20, that injured four persons.
Urbiztondo Mayor Modesto Operania on Friday, October 21, issued the order after an evaluation by the engineering office that the bridge will no longer be able to carry heavy trucks.
The Imelda Bridge connects the towns of Urbiztondo and Mangatarem.
Meanwhile, in Dagupan City, Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) chief Arvin Decano said while the Dawel Bridge reopened both lanes, the bridge’s load limit was also placed at five tons, effectively banning trucks.
The Dawel Bridge was earlier closed to one-lane only, after the July 27 earthquake which rocked Northern Luzon. (Ahikam Pasion)
