SEVENTY-five students from public and private secondary schools in Dagupan City were designated young city officials under the ‘Manlingkor Ya Kalangweran’ (MYK) program of the Fernandez administration that was restored following the re-opening of face-to-face classes in August this year.

Mayor Belen Fernandez led the young city officials’ oathtaking on October 17, 2022 at the City Plaza after which the young leaders were deployed at the offices of their counterpart city officials – mayor, vice mayor, councilors and department heads.

Seith Andrei Ambat, a 13-year-old Grade 9 student from East Central Integrated School, has been chosen as Young City Mayor.

“I want to learn something new and develop my leadership skills and see how Mayor Belen Fernandez works,” said the young resident of barangay Caranglaan.

The restoration of the MYK program that seeks to mold young learners into future leaders of the city was made part of the year-long celebration of Dagupan’s Diamond Jubilee that officially started on June 20 this year.

Before assuming their posts, the young officials attended a leadership workshop training conducted by the local Department of Education Schools Division Office on October 10, 2022 where the local chief executive exhorted the young leaders to become advocates of good governance, compassion, efficiency and transparency.
