MOST COMMON CAUSE: DEPRESSION

THE Department of Health – Center for Health Development Region I (DOH-CHD1) is watching the increase rate of suicide cases in Ilocandia.

Dr. Magnolia Brabante, DOH-CHD 1 Medical Officer IV, shared the information as the country observes the National Suicide Prevention Month, and cited depression as the leading cause of suicide in the region.

Next in the list of causes are psychosis, schizophrenia, financial problems, family problems, and heartbreak.

Last 2021, the DOH-CHD 1 recorded 103 suicide cases in the region.

Brabante said some suicide cases have been reported, 19 cases among the 10-19 year-old age group while 68 cases were reported among the 20-59 year-old age bracket.

According to DOH-CHD figures in 2021, males are more prone to end their lives due to their lack of outlet to share their problems.

Mayroon tayong rehabilitation, speaking engagements, and seminars sa mga paaralan at mga organisasyon upang matulungan sila”, she said.
