DOH-CHD 1 ready for monkeypox
THE Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Region 1 assured communities in the region of its readiness to manage a possible detection of monkeypox cases in the region.
Dr. Rheuel Bobis, CHD Medical Officer IV, who made the assurance during a media interview, said beds and facilities dedicated for monkeypox patients have been prepared, and contact tracing methods have been revamped based on learnings from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bobis said mass vaccination is not required for monkeypox cases and unlike in treatment of COVID cases, only small groups with known weak immune system may be inoculated.
Last Monday, August 22, the DOH reported the fourth case of monkeypox in the country. The patient, however, has no travel history outside the country, hinting of a possible local transmission of said illness. (Ahikam Pasion)
