Pangasinan warned of heavy rains, thunderstorms
HABAGAT RETURNS
IT’S that time of the year… again.
With the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) rains and thunderstorm prevailing over Pangasinan since last weekend till Friday, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and its municipal and city counterparts are continuously monitoring extent of flooding in their areas of responsibility.
Shalom Balolong, PDRRMO Emergency Operations Center Manager, said it had become necessary to closely coordinate plans with towns, cities and barangays, especially in coastal towns since gale warning was raised at the height of Tropical Depression Domeng,
In Calasiao town, one of the most affected in the province during the rainy season, the water level of Marusay River has been noticeably higher compared last month.
Kristine Joy Soriano, Calasiao MDRRMO spokesperson, said the town has been on blue alert status because of expected flooding caused by water from upstream.
She said the situation in the low-lying barangays is being monitored 24/7 and rescue equipment are ready to be deployed at anytime.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) expects two to three tropical cyclones to enter the PAR this month of July.
Meanwhile, monthly rainfall forecast in Pangasinan is expected at below normal, but PAGASA warns of incessant thunderstorms. (Ahikam Pasion)
