WANTED FOR VAXX BOOSTER SHOTS

ALTHOUGH Pangasinan and Dagupan City performed well in their campaign to have residents vaccinated with the first and second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, there are still some 1.5 million individuals in the province who need to have their first booster shots.

This was revealed by DOH Regional Director Paula Sydiongco in a talk to newsmen at the sideline during the opening of the Dagupan Diagnostic Center on Wednesday.

She said the booster shot is necessary as the effects of the first and second doses of the vaccines start to wane after six months, Sydongco appealed to the provincial/municipal/city local government units in Pangasinan to adopt innovative  strategies to have 1.5 million people get their booster shots.

“Though we have high rate of vaccination for the first and second dose in Pangasinan, particularly in Dagupan, which was at high 96 percent, we have 1.5 million people to find and give them booster shots so their immunity from COVID-19 will continue. ” Sydiongco said.

Sydiongco cited current situation that shows COVID-19 cases are again rising not only in the National Capital Region but also in Region 1.

“Immunity will  never be complete with the first and second dose of the vaccine without a booster shot,” said Sydiongco as she called on local media to support and encourage people in communities to submit themselves for vaccination.

She said some LGU health personnel are already doing house-to-house to find those who need booster shots while other LGUs have opened additional vaccination centers and commended efforts of LGUs in Pangasinan in a bid to reach their vaccination targets. (Leonardo Micua)
