New 37 COVID-19 cases logged in 18 towns, 2 cities
CONTAGION IN PANGASINAN BACK TO DOUBLE DIGITS
THE Department of Health (DOH) regional office noted a slight increase of COVID-19 active cases in Pangasinan, from a single digit case to 37 as of June 22 while cases in the region registered 76 cases and warned of a possible surge if the trend continues.
Dr. Rheuel Bobis, COVID-19 focal person of Region 1, clarified, however, that the increase in cases in both the province and the region were not significant to change the risk classification from Alert Level 1 to 2.
Bobis’ recent report indicated that among the four provinces of Region 1, Pangasinan was back on top. Out of its 37 cases, Dagupan City logged 16 active cases.
The cases in Pangasinan, aside from Dagupan, were in Mangaldan, Binalonan, Manaoag, Asingan, Lingayen, San Fabian, Sta. Barbara, Villasis, Agno, Alcala, Bayambang, Binmaley, Bolinao. Calasiao, Malasiqui, Pozorrubio, Sual, Urbiztondo and Urdaneta City.
Bobis said Region 1 was averaging 987 cases per day in January, but a steady decrease of cases down to five cases per day in May.
In a talk during the Virtual Presser hosted by Philippine Information Agency 1 on Thursday, Bobis attributed the slight increase noted to complacency of communities in observing the minimum health protocols, particularly on the wearing of face masks in public.
The good news, he said, is that no Omicron sub-variant, believed to be more transmittable than the original COVID-19 strain, has ever reached any part of Region1 yet.
Bobis urged local officials to adopt pro-active moves to check the uptick in cases.
He reiterated DOH’s recommendation that RT-PCR tests be taken by those belonging to a-1 (health care workers), a-2 (senior citizens) and a-3 (people with co-morbidities), if they suspect they have been infected even if they are asymptomatic.
The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases recently reiterated that wearing of masks in public place, whether indoor or outdoor should be observed. (Leonardo Micua)
