Lim, Fernandez lead signing “covenant of support, peace”
OUTGOING Dagupan City Mayor Brian Lim and incoming Mayor Belen Fernandez were together for the first time at the Dagupan City Police Station after the May 9 election on June 13 to lead the signing of the Post-Election Pledge of Support initiated by the Commission on Elections, Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Philippine National Police other government agencies.
Lim and Fernandez were joined by their respective teams that run in the May 9 local elections, and other stakeholders. Reelected Vice Mayor Brian Kua followed Fernandez in signing the covenant.
The signing was witnessed by lawyer Michael Sarmiento, City Elections Officer; P/Lt. Colonel Abubakar Mangelen Jr., chief of police; and Fr. Marlon Alam, who represented Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas.
The signatories committed themselves to unify and foster harmonious relationship regardless of political parties and vowed to accept the will of the majority that elected leaders of city for the next three years.
And those who lost in the last election, vowed to support those who were elected while those who won vow to do all to ensure the betterment of the people and of Dagupan City.
For her part, incoming Mayor Fernandez viewed the event as of paramount importance because it seeks to ensure acceptance of the result as well as asserts the need to respect the decision of the people of Dagupan City in the May 9 election.
“It also seeks to settle our differences brought about by the intense election campaign and more on to ensure that no post-election violence will happen in our beloved city,” Fernandez said.
Others who signed the covenant were Councilor Dennis Canto, Librada Reyna Macalanda, and Councilors-elect Jeslito Seen, Marilou Fernandez and Redford Erie-Mejia. (Leonardo Micua)
