RAPE. THEFT.  PHYSICAL INJURIES.

INDEX crimes in Pangasinan has decreased by 28%, according to the latest data from the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO).

The PPPO reported only 293 index crimes from January 1 up to June 7, compared to last year’s 407 cases recorded over the same period.

Index crimes consist of murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft and carnapping.

P/Major Katelyn Awingan, PPPO information officer, attributed the improvement to the numerous randomized checkpoints deployed and gun ban campaign, along with increased augmentation forces deployed during the election period.

Awingan said out of the total index crimes recorded over the period, 50.5% were solved.

The lack of witnesses and broken monitoring equipment (ie. CCTV cameras), remain the main challenge of the PNP in solving said crimes.

Among the index crimes with the highest rates were rape (99 incidents), theft (64 cases) and physical injury (53 cases).

“Patuloy tayo sa pagsasagawa ng information dissemination sa community upang malabanan po ang mga krimen, lalo na po ang panggagahasa”, said Awingan.

Meanwhile, PPPO recorded 1,112 non-index crimes lower than last year with 1,672 incidents reported. (Ahikam Pasion)
