Pangasinan PNP still monitoring post-election events
WHILE the May 9 National and Local Elections in Pangasinan were generally peacefully, the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) continues to monitor the security of 57 candidates in the recent polls.
This was revealed by P/ Colonel Richmond Tadina, provincial director, in a press conference Wednesday, May 25.
While he did reveal the identities of the 57 candidates, Tadina said it was they who requested security details even before the campaign period for fear of their safety. The security details will remain until the election period ends on June 8, 2022.
However, Tadina said since deploying the policemen to integrate into their respective security detail, no threats have been received or felt to date.
Meanwhile, with the elections over, Tadina said the augmentation forces from the AFP, and Police Regional Office have been pulled out since and have returned to their respective mother units.
All that remains, said Tadina, are the augmentation from the Provincial Mobile Force Companies, who are still tasked to monitor the election’s after effects.
In sum, 32 Quick Reaction Teams were activated, but all did not record any election-related violence.
Tadina felt justified in maintaining the 2:1 ratio in deploying policemen to voting centers.
PPPO’s campaign vs. illegal firearms resulted in the surrender of 352 firearms by owners that included local candidates who were vocal in supporting their anti-firearms campaign during the election period for safekeeping.
The PPPO has arrested 570 wanted persons, two of whom two were most wanted with rewards for their involvement in the ambush of former Governor Amado T. Espino Jr.
Tadina said PPPO is watching out for possible political rallies and protests, since there were candidates that expressed suspicions of fraudulent vote count. (Ahikam Pasion)
