CONTINGENCIES FOR POSSIBLE SURGE IN PLACE

ACTIVE COVID-19 cases in Pangasinan as of April 28 logged five, one case each in Asingan, Basista, Mangaldan, Sta. Maria and Urdaneta City.

While the non-alarming trend continues, (only one additional case added to April 24’s four cases), there are fears that the province might see a sudden surge in the next two weeks because the campaign period is at its homestretch phase when campaign reaches its peak.

The fear is compounded by the presence of thousands trooping to common voting venues over a 12-hour period on May 9 and no marshals are designated to oversee strict  enforcement of social distancing and other standard health protocols.

For the period April 21 to 28, only six new cases were logged while five patients recovered. No deaths were reported.

This, the total number of COVID cases in the province is now to 43,107, but 41,770 of whom had recovered. The total death toll from the contagion was pegged at 1,332.

Meanwhile, health officials expressed confidence that the dreaded BA.2.12 subvariant that was detected in Baguio, just 65 kilometers away from Dagupan, will not affect Pangasinan’s present status.

Officials expressed more concern over the warning of OCTA research that the contagion will likely surge after the election and feverishly preparing for such eventuality. (Leonardo Micua)
