De Venecias endorse VP Leni

VICE President Leni Robredo scored a big political boost in Pangasinan when she was officially endorsed by the De Venecia clan during the huge turnout at the Talindeg: Pangasinan People’s Rally in Dagupan City on April 8.

The endorsement is deemed significant as the family patriarch, former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., is the chairman emeritus of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, his wife Gina de Venecia was a former two-term congresswoman and their son Christopher is the incumbent congressman of the Fourth District and also the provincial and regional chairman of Lakas-CMD.

Rep. De Venecia who was seen wearing pink polo and pink face mask, went on stage to say he will soon reveal all his choices and thanked President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Bong Go for the valuable help they extended to his Fourth District.

After enumerating the accomplishments of the Vice President during the pandemic and during calamites, he quoted Mark Twain who said “it is never wrong to do the right thing.”

“May kasabihan din na ‘vision without execution is hallucination” which is translated in Pilipino as Ang pangarap kung walang tamang pag-implementa ay mananatling isang  panaginip lamang,” De Venecia said.

Before calling his parents up the stage to finally endorse Robredo, Rep. De Venecia said many politicians of different colors make promises when they are wooing the people for their votes and called on the people to pick the candidate with a track record and not the one without, adding that VP Leni is the only one with that good track record.

The De Venecia family was among the big political leaders in the province that crossed party lines and endorsed Robredo in that rally. The others were Mayors Simplicio Rosario of Binmaley, Kenneth Perez of San Manuel and Joseph Arman Bauzon of Calasiao.

Others who also attended the rally were Board Member Shiela Perez-Galicia, and a number of  incumbent councilors and candidates for mayor and vice mayor from various towns in Pangasinan affiliated with the Lakas-CMD or PDP Laban.

It was learned that some politicians in Pangasinan from the ruling party PDP Laban may follow suit and endorse Robredo but will be paired with President Duterte’s daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Although she was not on the stage, former Mayor Belen Fernandez welcomed Robredo and Senator Francis Pangilinan when they arrived at the CSI Stadia owned by the Fernandez’ family. Later, Fernandez, along with Councilor Luis Samson Jr. were seen having an intimate conversation with Robredo.

Sources said that Robredo has already clinched the support of the De Venecias as early as December 2021 through Manay Gina, her colleague in the 16th Congress from 2013 to 2016 who guided and mentored the future Vice President and hopefully the incoming president of the Philippines.
