THE number of confirmed active COVID cases in Pangasinan is back to double digits as of April 8 (It was 5 cases on March 31-11). But the increase was considered by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) as negligible at the moment.

There were 13 new cases logged from April 1 to 8 compared to just eight that recovered and again with no casualty.

The seven-days daily average of cases from March 25 to 31 was 2, like daily average cases for the period April 1 to 8.

Governor Amado Espino III, in a talk to newsmen during the opening program of the 442nd Agew na Pangasinan(Pangasinan Day) admitted that he is still wary of a possible new surge by a different and newly discovered COVID -19 variant’, prompting him to prepare health facilities in anticipation of people flocking to the provincial capitol for the Pista’y Dayat on May 1.

He noted that when the Agew na Pangasinan opened and with it the Pangasinan  Exposition and Exhibit, people were streaming to the provincial capitol and the Lingayen beach. The visitors had to be reminded about wearing of face masks and observing physical distancing.

Thus far, the total numbers of confirmed cases in Pangasinan raised to 43,089 while those that recovered number 41,747 but 1,331 died.

The remaining active cases in Pangasinan are in Binmaley (2) and in Alcala, Balungao, Calasiao, Rosales, San Fabian, Sto. Tomas, Lingayen, Urdaneta City and Dagupan City, one each. (Leonardo Micua)
