THE Provincial Health Office reported last Thursday, March 24, that from 20 active COVID-19 cases in the province last March 17, the number dropped to 18 after a week even as  24 new cases and 26 recoveries were logged from March 18 to 24.

As gleaned from the PHO report, there were four cases recorded on March 18, two on March 19, one each on March 21 and 20;  six each on March 22 and 23 and four on March 24.

This resulted in a daily average of 4 cases from March 18 to 24 compared to the daily average of three cases from March 11 to 17 based on the statistics released by the Provincial Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (PESU).

For the second week in a row, no death from COVID was registered in the province.

Since Pangasinan was declared a low risk area under Alert Level 1 classification up to March 31, malls and other enclosed establishments no longer require their patrons to present their vaccination cards though mandatory temperature checking was still in place. Public commuter transport units have been maximizing their occupancy.

With just 24 new cases recorded for the past week, the number of COVID-19 cases so far registered since the start of the pandemic increased slightly to 43,065, with 41,718 that recovered while 1,331 others had died.

The remaining cases in Pangasinan, all asymptomatic and needed no confinement in hospitals, were located in Sta. Barbara (4), Lingayen and Laoac (2 each) and Mangaldan, Urdaneta City, Bayambang, Binmaley, Bolinao, Mapandan, Bani, Rosales and San Carlos City  (1 each).

Dagupan, an independent component city of Pangasinan, was listed with just one remaining case. (Leonardo Micua)
