THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) declared two Pangasinenses who filed their certificates of candidacy for president in the May 2022 polls as nuisance candidates.

Provincial elections supervisor Marino Salas, however, did not identify the two who filed their COCs and simply hinted that one is from Mapandan town while  the other one is from San Carlos City.

Salas said prior to their declaration, the Comelec en banc summoned the two aspirants.

He said based on existing electoral laws, the two aspirants are not qualified to run for president.

The Comelec determined that the two does not have the capacity to conduct a nationwide campaign and neither do they have the capability to assume the duties of a president, Salas explained.

Meanwhile, the final list of candidates will be released only after the Comelec has completed its evaluation of the candidates’ capacity and capabilities. (Jerick Pasiliao)
