FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES

THE Alaminos City Schools Division of the Department of Education was given the green light to proceed with the pilot run of limited face-to-face classes of the Longos Elementary School in Barangay Pangapisan, on Monday, November 15.

This was bared by Dr. Lorna Bugayong, Schools Division Superintendent, in an interview on Thursday, November 11.

School Principal Fremilyn Rabago said there were originally 83 enrolled pupils in their school, however upon conducting a medical evaluation, two pupils were deferred and will have the modular learning instead while one lives in another barangay.

Bugayong said DepEd Undersecretary Alain Pascua, in his ocular inspection on Wednesday, November 10, expressed satisfaction over the school’s preparedness for the upcoming classes.

“All systems go na po tayo. Handa na po ang lahat”, Bugayong said. In total, there will be 80 pupils who will be joining the limited face-to-face classes.

Rabago said six classrooms will be used by pupils from kindergarten up to grade 5: Kindergarten will have 17 pupils, Grade 1 will have 24 pupils, 17 for Grade 2, and Grade 3 will have 22 pupils.

In enforcing physical distancing and other safety protocols, the pupils per level will be divided into two batches – one batch will go to school, while the other batch will do modular learning. They will switch places after one week.

“Magsasalitan po yung dalawang batch per grade level para po magkaroon ng physical distancing”, Bugayong added.

Pupils will follow their pre-pandemic schooling schedule.

Bugayong assured the safety of the learners, as school personnel who will be reporting to school have been fully vaccinated, adding that residents living in the school’s vicinity have also completed their inoculation.

The city government also moved the temporary fish market away from the school to keep the kids safe. The school is located near the shoreline, and has become the ‘bagsakan’ for individuals buying fish, and other seafood.

While the children have been assured safety throughout the pilot run, face-to-face classes will immediately be terminated if a pupil or a reporting school personnel catches COVID-19.  (Ahikam Pasion/Jerick Pasiliao)
