THOUGH Pangasinan will remain under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions and Dagupan still under GCQ from October 16 to 31, the critical stage may have already passed with only 1,154 active  COVID-19 cases as of October 14, as compared to 1,954 cases on October 7.

Things appeared to be encouraging with the province’s higher number of recorded recoveries from October 8 to 14 at 1,308, against 954 new cases logged, which could indicate that COVID-19, including the Delta variant may already be on the decline.

However, 44 patients had died over the week, bringing the total number of deaths in Pangasinan since the start of the contagion to 1,081.

Health officials also noted that hospital occupancy in the province has again eased and people diagnosed with positive cases can easily be accommodated in hospitals .

As of October 14, the total COVID-19 cases in the province stood at 33, 103 but 30,165 recovered.

The decline in number of active cases is also being attributed to more people already vaccinated.

Meanwhile, Dagupan City, according to records, still has the highest number of active cases in Pangasinan with 507 as of October 12 while only one town, Sison has cases in triple digits as of October 14 with 150 cases.

Other component towns, in the COVID-18 watchlist  of the Provincial Health Office are San Carlos City (80), Bayambang (73), Lingayen  (67), Calasiao (60), Umingan (48) and Urdaneta City (46).

In Dagupan city, Bonuan Binloc has the highest number of cases with 112 active case, Bonuan Gueset is second (91), Tapuac (44) and Pantal and Malued (38 each). (Leonardo Micua)
