THE town of San Jacinto was placed under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) with heightened restrictions classification starting September 20 and will end on October 3, to the request of Mayor Leo de Vera, which was granted by Governor Amado Espino III.

In Gov. Espino ‘s letter to Mayor De Vera on September 18, the governor said “In view of the rising cases of COVID-19 in San Jacinto resulting in 69 active cases and 366 total COVID-19 cases as of September 17, 2021. . . . please be informed that your request to place the Municipality of San Jacinto under MECQ for fourteen (14) days is hereby granted beginning September 20, 2021 to October 3, 2021.”

San Jacinto became fifth town in Pangasinan that sought higher quarantine classification or MECQ, due to rising COVID-19 cases. Other towns that were in MECQ category but have since been restored to General Community Quarantine (GCQ) are Sison, Pozorrubio, Manaoaq and Mangaldan.

San Jacinto was among 21 towns and cities that still deferred the opening of classes on September 13 in all levels including all school activities which would require face-to-face interaction and mass gatherings.

In an announcement on September 19, LGU San Jacinto clarified that the MECQ classification of the town is not a lockdown as APORs (Authorized Persons Outside of Residence), indicating  those who are going to work and those permitted to buy food, medicines and or their provisions can still go out of their respective houses.

Under the GCQ with heightened restrictions classification status of Pangasinan until September 30, all its component LGUs were required to set a “no movement day” every Sunday. (Leonardo Micua)
