THE provincial Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) agreed to place Manaoag town under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) until Sept. 19, Sunday.

In a meeting last Sept. 3, the provincial IATF granted the request of Manaoag local government owing to the unusual surge in COVID-19 cases recently.

Provincial IATF resolution 07- 2021 cited the 147 active  COVID-19 cases in 24 out of its 26 barangays as of Sept. 1, exceeding the 25 % percent critical zone threshold for positive cases.

“There is a need to impose a stricter community quarantine upon the (request) of the municipality of Manaoag,” the resolution said.

The implementation of MECQ requires:

1) Individuals below 18 years old and over 65, with immunodeficiency and other health risks, or pregnant to remain in their residences except when obtaining essential goods and services or for work in industries or offices permitted to operate.

2) Entertainment venues, recreational venues, amusement parks, indoor sports courts or venues, fitness studios, gyms, spas, casinos, outdoor tourist attractions are not allowed to operate.

3) Gatherings outside or immediately outside residences are prohibited except for those for health, government, and other humanitarian services.

Town police chief Maj. Hermino Olivares said the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary of Manaoag is temporarily closed during the MECQ implementation but online masses can continue.

He also banned bikers from other towns from entering the town. (Jerick Pasiliao)
