COVID-19 cases surge in Dagupan
ALREADY accounting for one Delta variant case, Dagupan registered 279 new cases against 124 recoveries over a seven-day period from August 26 to September 1 to remain the epicenter of the pandemic in Pangasinan.
This brought to 531 the number of active cases in Dagupan.
The total cases registered to date is 2,844 while 2,232 had recovered but 113 died.
With reports that all beds allotted by local hospitals for COVID-19 patients were already occupied as reported to the Sangguniang Panlungsod, the city is scrambling to provide additional isolation facilities for mild cases to ease the tight situation.
The Region 1 Medical Center, the only government hospital in Dagupan, already temporarily closed its Outpatient Department and other allied departments to create more spaces for patients as COVID-19 continues to surge in the province.
From Dagupan’s Public Information Office, it’s database reported 57 new cases last August 27, the highest surge registered in a single day in the city, and another 48 cases on August 28, 46 cases on August 31, 38 cases each on August 26 and 37 cases on August 27 and 28 on September 1.
There were reports and calls for a lockdown but city hall quickly dismissed all these.
While it is not clear whether Dagupan was included among the LGUs in Pangasinan recommended for higher quarantine classification based on a letter submitted to the regional IATF by Governor Amado Espino III, residents are hoping the city will be included.
Dagupan is an independent component city of Pangasinan and is not under the administrative and political jurisdiction of the province but has not made a similar recommendation to the regional IATF.
