TWO more Covid-Delta variant cases were detected in Pangasinan but both are asymptomatic.

This was confirmed by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Anna de Guzman on Tuesday, August 17 but did not identify the hometowns of the cases, but merely said the patients are from Central Pangasinan.

She said she has written the patients’ respective local governments about the findings and expects them to acknowledge the cases after the investigation, validation and contact tracing.

The first case is a 36-year-old businessman who caught the virus after he had a visitor from Bulacan and scheduled to undergo another RT-PCR swab test on August 17.

The other is a 25-35 years old seaman who arrived from Malta whose case validation and investigation was still ongoing at presstime.

Earlier, a seafarer from Natividad town was tested positive for Delta variant but his repeat RT-PCR test later showed he was already negative of the virus.

Meanwhile, the provincial government registered 63.75% bed utilization rate, or 153 out of 240 COVID-19 dedicated beds have already been occupied and announced that the 14 provincial government-run hospitals will no longer accept COVID-19 patients from outside Pangasinan, particularly from NCR+ areas.

De Guzman said remaining beds are reserved exclusively for Pangasinenses.

Chiefs of hospitals have been ordered by the PHO to immediately test patients showing symptoms of COVID-19 so those that tested negative could be moved to regular beds.
