Only 17 percent of eligible population vaccinated
UPDATE ON VACCINATION ROLLOUT
THE rollout of vaccination in Pangasinan already covered 288,814 persons with anti-COVID-19 vaccine as of last Monday, August 2, representing 17% of the eligible population in the province.
This was confirmed by Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, during the Question Hour of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, as she reported that bigger communities are already vaccinating an average of 500 persons daily while the smaller ones are vaccinating from 200 to 300 individuals daily.
De Guzman told the board members that the supply of the vaccines in Pangasinan for two weeks have been distributed to the towns and cities based on their respective schedules of vaccination for the next two weeks.
“We are advocating that the LGU cover first the senior citizens or A-2 and the persons with comorbidities or A-3, but since there are already members of other sectors who already want to be vaccinated, we told them to also vaccinate these people,” De Guzman said.
De Guzman said even returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) could be vaccinated and are being directed to go to any vaccination center where they may be asked to present their documents.
But the challenge, she said, was the case of OFWs returning to their jobs immediately and cannot wait for their second dose which have interval of 29 days for Sinovac and from 10 to 12 weeks for AstraZeneca.
But the remaining OFWs are lucky because the vaccines to be administered this week by the vaccination centers in Pangasinan is the single-dose Janssen vaccine manufactured by Johnson & Johnson.
To those who have to travel and cannot avail of the Janssen vaccine, De Guzman advised them to go the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Manila to help them get vaccinated with the one-dose vaccine.
On the report that some countries still require a two-week quarantine for returning OFWs vaccinated with Sinovac, De Guzman advised the OFWs to ask OWWA to inoculate them with Pfizer, Moderna and Sputnik vaccines that it has. (Leonardo Micua)
