Duetrte’s SONA modest, impactful – Bataoil

THE president of the Pangasinan Mayors’ League said the President’s sixth and last State of the Nation Address (SONA) was modest but impactful.

Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil, president of the league, said the President’s SONA not only cited the government’s response and remaining courses of action to the COVID-19 pandemic but it also brought the nation to a memory lane of the past five-year of the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

In his statement, Bataoil said what was apparent in the President’s address was the recognition of the adverse effects brought about by the pandemic. “Nonetheless, as we have been doing here in the grassroots, the national government remains adamant in pursuing its programs not only in health but in other sectors,” he said

Bataoil highlighted that portion of Duterte’ speech that cited the infrastructure projects in provinces, particularly because his town is among the beneficiaries of the administration’s projects. He cited the recent visit of Transportation Secretary Art Tugade to his town to inspect the Pangasinan Port Cluster Development Project – two social tourism port projects in barangays Pangapisan and Capandanan.

“These are transformational initiatives that will surely benefit our people,” Bataoil stressed.

So just like the national government, the local government of Lingayen continues to rise even more robust than this pandemic, he said. “As well, I reaffirm our commitment to our President’s programs of good governance,” he added. (Eva Visperas)
