Compared to the 2019 polls, Pangasinan had only 1,946,682 voters.
He said despite the pandemic, a high turnout was achieved particularly among youth registrants.
He pointed out that some 3,000 android phone users in pilot areas have availed of Comelec’s mobile app registration for Android phone (no internet connectivity needed), and that also facilitated voters’ registration because the process only employed us of QR codes. (Registrants don’t have to fill out forms anymore in registration areas).
The pilot areas were in Bolinao, Mangatarem, Urbiztondo, Basista, Mangatarem, Bugallon, Bayambang, Alcala, Sto. Tomas, Sison, Villasis, Urdaneta City, Asingan, Natividad, Rosales, San Nicolas, San Quintin and Sta. Maria.
Salas said other towns and cities in Pangasinan use iRehistro which uses internet connectivity.
Comelec offices are open Mondays to Fridays, including holidays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“The challenge now is not just to increase the number of registrants but to ensure their safety as well,” Salas said. (Eva Visperas/Jerick Pasiliao)
