COVID-19 cases rising anew in Pangasinan
AFTER TWO WEEKS
COVID-19 cases in Pangasinan spiked anew after a downturn for two straight weeks.
The Provincial Health Office logged 582 new confirmed cases and three deaths compared to 362 patients that recovered for a week-long period from June 25 to July 1.
As of July 1, the new cases brought the total number of active cases in the province to 844 (from 626 last June 24). Dagupan, a component city of Pangasinan, contributed 83.
The total number of confirmed cases in the province has now ballooned to 11,987. However, 10,733 had recovered and 410 died.
The renewed spike of cases has alarmed officials of the province who recommended intensified contact tracing procedures and stricter border control as people from risk areas, particularly Metro Manila, are now swarming all over Pangasinan.
The biggest spike of cases occurred on June 26 and 27 when there were 100 and 126 new confirmed COVID-19 cases respectively that were logged compared to 55 and 16 patients who were released from their confinement and isolation.
The rise of cases stopped on July 1 when there were 131 recoveries against 26 new cases that came in.
Meanwhile, drawing a worst-case scenario in case the Delta variant managed to enter Pangasinan, the provincial Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) prompted the increase of bed capacities of existing isolation facilities.
Incidentally, the rise of cases occurred while Pangasinan was yet putting in place all the necessary precautionary measures against the possible entry of the highly infectious Delta variant from India.
Dr. Anna De Guzman, provincial health officer, assured the Sangguniang Panlalawigan that no Delta variant was detected in Pangasinan to date. (Leonardo Micua)
