SAN CARLOS City Mayor Julier Resuello has threatened to impose a city-wide lockdown if the spike in COVID cases in the city continues owing to continued disregard of health and safety protocols.

In his Facebook live video message to city residents on May 5, Resuello expressed dismay that the city again topped the COVID watchlist of the Provincial Health Office for having the highest number of new confirmed cases.

As of May 6, San Carlos City registered 96 active COVID cases.

“Don’t force me to declare lockdown because all of us will be affected,” he warned.

He gave barangay officials one week to monitor and to strictly enforce the health protocols.

“But if you don’t follow, next week, I have no recourse but to impose lockdown,” he warned.

The mayor said he would not think twice about using “an iron hand to protect the people against the virus.”

He lamented that he still sees people not wearing mask and face shield despite repeated reminders and warnings. “They are not scared to get infected by the virus,” he said.

He warned that once a member of a family is COVID positive, other members will likely be infected, too.

Resuello said several barangay captains were already hospitalized due to COVID and the the city hall has been operating with skeletal workforce because some department heads already tested positive for COVID-19 and an employee also died because of the virus.

He also urged the residents to participate in the survey being conducted for their willingness to be vaccinated. (Eva Visperas)
