Pangasinan has 1.96-M voters, still counting
WITH less than a year before the 2022 national and local elections, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Pangasinan Provincial Office already recorded 76,461 newly-registered voters and counting.
This was the latest data bared by Atty. Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor.
Pangasinan total voters now is 1,962,000. This is expected to increase as registration is set to continue until September 30.
Despite the pandemic, Salas was happy about the successful registration turnout in the province.
“This just means that people are willing to go and vote next year”, said Salas.
The turnout exceeded their expectations, as they only targeted 60 to 70 thousand registrations since they opened registrations September 2020.
As the deadline approaches, Salas said the COMELEC offices throughout Pangasinan are now operating Monday to Friday, including holidays, from 8 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon. The office holds its off-site registration on weekends in areas listed in their Facebook page.
Meanwhile, Salas said the May 2022 national and local elections will push through despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
While they are considering other voting options, they would most likely extend voting hours and use more polling precincts to lessen the number of voters per precinct. (Ahikam Pasion)
