COVID-19 CAMPAIGN GETS A BOOST

FOR the first time, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Pangasinan was down from May 14 to 20 compared to the statistics of the previous week with bigger number of recoveries than the tallied number of new confirmed cases.

As of May 20, the number of active COVID-19 cases was at 756 or lower by 33 than the 789 active cases registered a week before May 13.

This developed after 542 COVID-19 patients recovered while there only 526 new confirmed cases and 20 deaths were registered for the week.

This new development is showing indications that while COVID-19 infections have not slowed down, more patients are recovering and coming out from their confinement and isolation owing to the improved treatment protocol being given by the province’s health care professionals.

There were 148 recoveries that were registered on May 20 compared to 56 new confirmed cases; 71 recoveries as compared to 52 confirmed cases on May 19.

However, there were 106 new confirmed cases compared to just 81 recoveries on May 19; 91 new confirmed cases versus 79 recoveries on May 17; 121 new confirmed cases versus 42 recoveries on May 16; and 33 new cases versus 26 recoveries on May 15; and 95 recoveries versus 67 new cases on May 14.

Optimism is high that if the infection can be controlled through the stricter enforcement of standard health protocol, improved contact tracing and quarantine, flattening of curve of COVID-19 cases can be achieved in Pangasinan.

Meanwhile, a report said San Carlos City has started to impose stricter border control since the city was placed on top of the COVID-19 watchlist of the Provincial Health Office.

The new tally brought the total number of confirmed cases in Pangasinan to 9,062 out of which 7,574 were from the 37 towns and cities of Pangasinan and 1,488 from Dagupan, an independent component city.

The total recoveries ballooned to 7,945 while the death toll is 361.

San Carlos City was still on top in Pangasinan in the number of cases at 75, followed by Dagupan City (60), Urdaneta City (47), Lingayen (33), Mangaldan (31), Villasis (31), Bayambang (28), Rosales (28), Calasiao (27), Binmaley (26), Binalonan (22), San Fabian (22), Sta. Barbara (22), Asingan (20), Malasiqui (20), Alaminos City (19), Bolinao (15), Burgos (15), Laoac (15), and San Quintin (15), Tayug (13), Umingan (13), and Sual (12).
